From violins and cellos to the upright bass and the viola, string instruments hold a very special place among the many instruments we provide our valued customers from Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles and Chicago, Il.
String instruments are the typically the largest section in an orchestra. There are four sizes of string instruments, with the violin the smallest and the double bass the biggest.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The violin and viola produce higher-pitched sounds, and the larger instruments like the cello and double bass make the deeper, richer tones that are so important to the sound of a modern orchestra.
Whichever the size of the instruments, they have a similar shape and curved wooden bodies with wooden necks. The strings stretch across the body and neck and connect to a decorative heads. It’s at the head of the neck where the strings are tuned with small but sturdy tuning pegs.
STRINGÂ INSTRUMENTS
String instruments have a hollow body that allows sound to vibrate within. Different models are made from different kinds of wood, but the string itself is also vital to the type of sound. Strings are available in steel, nylon or gut. The instruments are played by pulling a bow across the strings with a bow, which typically has a wooden handle with horsehair serving as the bow’s “strings.” This type of instrument can be played by plucking the strings too
